The marketplace model
Four questions about where your payment goes and who provides the lesson.
GoSkate charges $299–$599 upfront for lesson packages. Some reviewers report difficulty obtaining refunds after payment.
GoSkate describes itself as "a Marketplace." Like most marketplaces, it retains a portion of each transaction before paying the instructor.
GoSkate coordinates instructor assignment. Ask whether you can choose your instructor and what "certified" means in their system.
When scheduling issues, instructor changes, or refund requests arise, consumers interact with GoSkate — not the instructor directly. Multiple reviewers report difficulty reaching support.
The money question
Your instructor receives a fraction of what you pay.
Every dollar goes to the person teaching.
Hypothetical illustration using a $100 lesson fee and typical 30–50% marketplace commission rates. GoSkate's actual commission structure has not been independently verified. Direct-booking instructors set their own rates and may have business expenses not reflected here.

Before you pay
Six things to verify before you pay anyone for skateboard lessons.
A real instructor has a Google Business profile, social media with actual skating, or a personal website. If you can't find them outside the platform, ask why.
Platform reviews may be curated. Google reviews are harder to manipulate. Look for specific details — names, ages, what was taught.
Will it be the same person every time? Can you meet or speak with them before paying? Consistency matters, especially for children.
Before you pay, ask: What happens if the instructor doesn't show? What if my child doesn't enjoy it? How long does a refund take?
There is no nationally recognized skateboard instructor certification. If a company claims their instructors are "certified," ask which organization issued it.
If you can't reach the person who will actually teach your child — by phone, text, or email — you're booking through a middleman.
